Holly Barton
Well known as a centre of artistic production, this course will explore how styles of art and architecture produced in France, with particular focus on the city of Paris, have garnered such acclaim.
Structured chronologically, students will see how both the country and capital city have long been associated with artistic production and discovery from the 10th to the 20th centuries. Covering such a broad period will also introduce students to the work of foreign artists and centers of artistic production. Throughout the course students will be encouraged to explore how other European and non-Western cultures influence and contrast with art and design in France.
Over the four weeks of intensive study, students will travel back to the Medieval period, and move forward through time to the mid 20th century. The course will be divided between classes at École Parsons à Paris and visits to museums, giving students the opportunity to discover and work with collections in the city.
Please note that course availability is contingent on sufficient enrollment and that classes are subject to cancellation.
