From Concept to Store: Fashion Management

Martine Bruno

This non-studio summer course aims at introducing students to the various aspects of the management of fashion with a particular focus on Paris as a fashion capital. Students will learn the basis of fashion collection management, starting with how a fashion line is put together and developed to manufacturing and sampling. They will also be exposed to the basics of fashion retailing and merchandising. Finally, students will be asked to explore what the future of fashion might be in view of recent trends in the industry. Throughout the program, they will alternate between in-class lectures, workshops and field trips.

The program will be taught by professionals in the field of fashion, and emphasis will be on management rather than design development or creation. Students will be exposed to the fashion scene in Paris while being taught the basics of fashion management. Fieldtrips will include guided visit to exhibitions, ateliers and show rooms within and around Paris. One such excursion will be to one of our partner institutions, the Ecole Lesage, school of La Maison Lesage, one of the premier embroidery suppliers worldwide that belongs to Karl Lagerfeld. During this one-day visit, students will learn about the luxury industry, visit their ateliers, and participate in a practical workshop.

Please note that course availability is contingent on sufficient enrollment and that classes are subject to cancellation.
