French + Objects/Contexts: Drawing relations and complexity of built Paris

Students will spend 1.5 hours a day in French class prior to "Objects/Contexts: Drawing." There will be three different levels + a special class for students who are already fluent in French.

Peter O’Brien

A architectual drawing course whose goal is to expand the perceptual range of observation to identify and include increasing levels of complexity of information using the architectural and urban forms that Paris, as a subject, offers. Understanding is sought through observation of form, mass, materials, constructive systems through the use of both dry and mixed media. Historical knowledge is not the basis of this course. However, analysis and transcription of layers of information will be emphasized as well as drawing as optical impression and it’s transformation on the page. Whether a student is involved in three dimensional media (architecture, industrial design, sculpture), or two dimensional media (illustration, graphic or fine arts), this conjugation of spatial and analytical modes will offer challenges in visual language which are not restricted to any particular major.

This course may include 2 or 3 mobile sketching days spent exploring the city by rented bicycles.

Please note that course availability is contingent on sufficient enrollment and that classes are subject to cancellation.
