Writing Workshop

This writing workshop introduces students to the work of 20th century French writer George Perec through a close examination of his texts. As those will be read and discussed, focus will be on the observation of places and spaces, the challenges of descriptions, the role of memory and personal experiences in Perec's literary productions. Participants will take part in in-class exercises using methods developed by Perec, read them aloud and receive critics from the group. There will be a production of a personal text inspired by specific constraints. The goal of the workshop is to reflect upon the journeys of a major literary figure and to allow each participant to pursue his or her own exploration of the writing process.
