Art + Design Curatorship as Creative Practice
Damien Airault + Cécile Bourne-Farrell + Caroline Hancock + Laurent Mareschal
This program will explore the current multifaceted nature of the world of art and design by introducing students to emergent curatorial practices in these fields as they relate to artists; public spaces; museums; galleries; larger urban settings; ephemeral and virtual spaces. Students will be exposed to various aspects of the contemporary art and design scene of the "Grand Paris" (or Greater Paris) in an effort to familiarize them with the multiplicity of curatorial practices that are being developed today with respect to the global emergence of new and alternative trends in art and design.
The course seeks to expose and engage students with alternative, vanguard, as well as traditional practices in curatorship. Throughout the program, students explore creative approaches and develop a virtual exhibition/event where they will be able to concretely work on these ideas and practices. Lectures by key actors of Paris' art and design world, guided visits to alternative gallery spaces, upcoming art centers, as well as established museums will allow the students to discover the City's curatorial scene.
Please note that course availability is contingent on sufficient enrollment and that classes are subject to cancellation.
