Films of Chris Marker
Andy Comer
Best known for his groundbreaking 1962 short film La Jetée (a striking example of the "cine-essay" form he pioneered), the enigmatic French artist Chris Marker has quietly created one of the most prolific, innovative, influential-and unheralded-bodies of work in cinema history. Almost comically secretive, Marker, now 90, continues to work out of his home in Paris's 11th arrondissement. This course traces his wide-ranging aesthetic history and provides a rare chance to view and critically engage with his singular output. Screenings will range from Le joli mai (1963) and A Grin Without a Cat (1977) to David Bowie, and readings from Bergson and Proust to Régis Debray.
Please note that course availability is contingent on sufficient enrollment and that classes are subject to cancellation.
